Dubai's Golden Visa: A Family Residency at Scale
GDRFA data released on 15 May 2026 to mark International Day of Families confirms that more than 167,000 dependants now hold Golden Visa residency in Dubai.
Of these, 100,286 residencies were granted to relatives of property investors, with a further 70,247 going to families of scientists and specialists. The ten-year permit allows qualified holders to sponsor first-degree family members for an identical duration, with no requirement for a local employment sponsor.
These figures reflect a deliberate policy direction under Dubai's Social Agenda 33 to use family-friendly immigration to anchor long-term specialised talent in the emirate.
What This Means for HNW Families
For high-net-worth families, the absence of a minimum stay requirement and the ability for Golden Visa holders to accept local employment or establish businesses without jeopardising residency status are often the considerations that tip a decision.
Compared to European residency by investment programmes, which typically carry renewal obligations and physical presence thresholds, the Dubai model offers a structurally lighter administrative burden.
For families with school-age children or dependants requiring healthcare access, the certainty of a ten-year family permit alongside the investor's own visa removes a variable that many clients find consequential.
Marlow Bray advises on UAE and international residency structures for HNW families. If you are reviewing your family's long-term residency arrangements, we welcome a conversation.
